I have had the G12 for several years and enjoyed it, but a year and a half ago, I converted it to Infrared as I had a Panasonic FZ2500 and thought that would take the place of the G12. Still, I found the FZ too big for many occasions and a complicated camera. It seemed I could change just about any setting on the camera except the camera's color itself, and it was too easy to hit one of the buttons and change a setting.

So I recently purchased the G1X on E bay, I have not received it yet, but I look forward to using it. Any thoughts on the G1X?

I had a G1X Original for 8 years (Bought new at launch) , put 50K shots on it and eventually the lens fell to bits but it was hammered to death .. superb camera best shot in RAW to get the most out of it . the lens is slower than the Mk2 but is optically better and you get the full 14Mp all the time .

the Image quality stands up today , its basically the same as a 650D DSLR in live view but with the sensor cropped to 14Mp from 18 and a far better lens than any of the cheap DSLR Kit lenses , also it`s a lot better at AF than a DSLR of that era in live view too . some will say its slow and clunky but as a walkabout camera (or for product photography which I used it for mainly ) it was more than fast enough ..

Weaknesses are 1:- a total lack of any kind of realistic closeup abiilty ..2:- OVF is ok at a pinch but its rarely bang on framing wise

Thanks for the input; when I was looking at the G1X I was hoping that the OVF was going to be better than the one on the G12, but it sounds like it's not. But sounds like the IQ is what I am hoping for. I'm looking forward to working with it. One of the big reasons I got the G12 was its RAW ability.
