any other recommendations for a "in-between" teleconverter for the Canon M series. Even if it means using a EF-EOS M adapter and adapting EF or EF-S lenses.

Jack, I've shot quite a bit with the EF 100-400ii + EF 1.4x iii TC (and adapter on the M6ii). It's definitely the king of the hill for the M System. I'd recommend starting there and then working your way down the food chain to get to what's affordable.

Large image. Click on "original size." The close-focusing ability of this combo is fantastic!

ps. The EF-S 55-250 + 1.5x TC "Larry Rexley Special" doesn't do too bad either (for a really cheap setup)...

2160 px image (uncropped). Good IQ if you don't need to go too big.

These were just some backyard birds. Shot through double-paned argon-filled glass. R2

I'm just wondering, do these type of set ups require some "modification" or "do it yourself hacking" to get them to work or are they as simple as just putting the parts together and voila, they just work?

As in EOS M camera + EF-M to EF adapter + TC + EF lens?

Personally I've got a Canon M3, and I'm just looking for something that just works out of the box without modification
