Yes, I think the RF 100-400 is probably a really great value ! Since then however, I have learned about (and implemented) some changes both with firmware updates to the lens, as well as settings changes on my camera. Preliminary testing looks very promising. In back yard testing it feels like I've improved my focus hit rate, from maybe 15% to 80+%. I just need to get out and do more real world testing with it, to be completely sure
I'm glad to hear that you seem to have fixed your issues. My main issue with the Sigma 150-600 would be weight and size! But I am not a wildlife photographer, so I'm not dedicated enough to carry such a big and heavy lens. The RF100-400 suits me well, and gets me to 560 with the 1.4X converter.
I agree with you on the size and weight. BTW, nice images in your original post. I do enjoy some wildlife photography, but also do generalist work. I bought the lens last year, ordered on announcement day for $650 and still think that was a good price. The $499 price is amazing. I use mine when I don't want to carry around a heavy telephoto lens. I sold my Sigma 150-600 earlier this year. I had a nice copy, but I found the lens big and heavy. I believe it was BirdShooter7 who said one of the advantages of the RF 100-400 is you can though it in a bag when hiking and not even notice.
