How do you set exposure for Video with Nikon Z?

Other than eyeballing it, or depending on the camera to decide through some auto setting, I can find no way to systematically adjust exposure on a Nikon Z7 or Z7II.

Nikon Zebra settings show only highlights so you can't adjust them to read a gray card or skin tone (like Sony allows) and there's no meter.

So far the best I can figure is to set the meter in stills and copy the settings to video... yeah super efficient. How can anyone make a video camera without an exposure meter? Sure exposure changes but it's about reference and continuity. No meter, no reference.

With a VND filter on the camera it's very hard to judge good and consistent exposure shot to shot. I mean you can't even read a gray card through the camera in video mode. Pretty disappointed. Are all brands like this?
