I guess the Apple uses double click to play a video like the Windows 10 computer defaults but I don't know.

Yes, if you double click it will open up the movie on whatever app is the default for opening up .mov, which is usually Quicktime Player, but the default can be changed.

not sure if QT player opens up when you click on .avi's tho.

Interested now in .MOV and .AVI capabilities of the Apple default video viewer that came with his recent computer.

QT player is the default (and only app) that comes with the computer, but there are plenty of free apps that can play back movies and .avi's.

QT player might have issue with unique/rare .avi codecs, but since Macs are quite popular for video editing, there are usually workarounds or 3rd party extensions or apps that can handle. - Especially if coming from a name brand camera - as Canon and Sony offer apps to work with their devices and video formats.

When I search Quicktime the Google answers to questions mostly read as if QT has been replaced.

When I ask the user I'm getting no answers whatsoever but he is looking into how to read the SD card, and sounded very interested in the tennis doubles video.
