Re: New GFX 50s II Owner - First Day Impressions

Enjoy!

I have just acquired my first medium format digital, the Mk I in my case, to use with my Pentax 645 lenses as soon as the adaptor arrives. It will be interesting to compare the 38MP 1:1 frames with the 100MP 1:1 output from the full frame + vertex rotary stitcher.

While awaiting the arrival of the adaptor, I'm currently messing about with a 24mm Cosina MC macro from the 1980s that cost about £12. A mismatch, but it works 1:1 with a slight crop.

I shot some test long exposures in the park yesterday and to my surprise got 3 images for every shot with different ISOs. Some kind of bracketing feature I accidentally engaged.

Focusing on the back screen is tricky when you forget your reading glasses.

Next test is to see whether my field monitor will work and to try out the Mir38B 65mm 6x6 lens I have.

Despite all this MF goodness, I still love my m4/3 Lumix G9. It is nigh on the perfect camera for me and it will hopefully become actually perfect when my superzoom arrives tomorrow. As much as I like using the vintage primes, you can't beat a smaller camera with a compact superzoom for unplanned walk around snapping. Effortless photography.
