800mm f6.3 Replacement Foot
4

As soon as I received my 800mm f6.3 lens I placed a pre-order with RRS for their replacement foot (same part as for 400mm f2.8).

In the meantime, I fitted a RRS MPR-113 plate to the stock Nikon foot.

There is still no sign of the RRS foot, but I noticed that B&H had the Kirk LP-72 replacement foot in stock.

I’ve always bought RRS equipment since as a retired Chartered Engineer working in aerospace, I appreciate their design, workmanship, and quality control.

The Kirk foot arrived today, and I must say that it is a very nice item. The only thing I would note is that it is actually a two-part item with an adapter plate (silver part in photos) attached to the replacement foot with screws and it is the adapter that fits to the lens mount with four screws. I don’t know if RRS will adopt this design or make it from a single block of aluminum.

You can see from the photos that the foot is lower than the stock foot plus lens plate and long enough to just stay clear of the reverse mounted lens hood. There is a soft grip on the foot that makes it comfortable to carry the lens. It’s a nice touch that they supply a Bondhus 3mm hex driver in the package.

Hope this helps anybody who is looking for arca-swiss options for this lens.
