So a f/1.8 on a 1" sensor would still gather more light than a f/3.5 on an APS-C?

Gotta take into account lens quality and sensor quality. You will find a lot better lenses on Aps c cameras than you will on 1 inch sensors,

Nope ... we are talking Zeiss & Leica lenses.

Many former APS users have praised them as sharper -- especially at full-tele and wide-open.

as they’re generally in consumer grade zoom cameras.

They may have plastic body-shells ... but Leica feels the quality is sufficient to attach their name/LOGO on them -- and actually sells them (as "Leica" cameras).

Not quite as simple as you think. Plus with programmes like DXO Photolab and deNoise AI it’s matter less and less about light gathering.

Some here think there is nothing-else except "total"-light.
