Using the focus hold button

Hey all.

I just purchased the Sony 40 G for my A7C thanks to the input from this forum on an earlier post. I love the clickable aperture ring and see myself using this all the time.

The focus hold button has me a bit perplexed, though. If you use it - what for???

Is having a focus hold button easier than simply pressing the shutter halfway and recomposing???

Apparently people also assign this button to eye AF. However, isn’t this redundant with the eye AF option in camera?? I follow Mark Galer’s preferred settings for portrait mode on my custom setting and eye focus works great.

So, should I just leave it set to focus hold and either use it or forget it??

Or, is there a nice custom function I can assign to this button I am not even thinking about?
