I almost decided not to comment on your, perhaps not tack sharp, plane takeoff. Just a couple of questions... were you hand-holding the camera or supporting the camera/lens against perimeter fencing, etc? I'll assume you used a tripod (not mono pod) and did not follow/pan the takeoff.

Thanks for your extended reply and comments. I am not using a tripod here, as the view was clear. Temperature was an issue indeed, as this one was taken in Mallorca during summer (roughly 31°C).

I will definitely look into the calibration in more detail again, that could be something which brings the quality up just enough! And indeed, the lens is already quite "old" compared to the new motors. I also find that to be the case in focusing on quickly moving objects (e.g. birds or airplanes).
