Z6II and Z7II AF too slow for Motorsport?
26

Here's a few taken over the last 3 days at the New Zealand Round of the World Rally Championship.

Z6II, 1/2000, f5.6, ISO 1600, 500mm f5.6 PF

Z6II, 1/200, f8.0, ISO 200, 500mm f5.6 PF

Z6II, 1/200, f8.0, ISO 200, 500mm f5.6 PF

Z6II, 1/160, f8.0, ISO 160, 500mm f5.6 PF

Z6II, 1/160, f8.0, ISO 160, 500mm f5.6 PF

Z7II, 1/60, f8.0, ISO 64, 50mm f1.8S

Z7II, 1/320, f8.0, ISO 320, 500mm f5.6 PF

Much lower keeper rate at 1/160 or 1/200. . . but images look a lot more dynamic with the slower shutter speed.

AF was great - acquired the cars almost instantaneously and tracked successfully about 95% of the time - although a little less often when it started raining heavily, reducing the contrast.  Any slight unsharpness in one or two images due to use of slow shutter speed and my panning ability, not the AF.
