Sony Video - Why Catalyst didnt work for me..
2

In my first videos using the Sony A1 - I was shooting at 400 and 600 mm.

Handheld my videos looked pretty shaky - so I turned on Active Steadyshot

They looked better with Active SteadyShot - but I thought I would run them through Sony's Catalyst Browser to improve it. In fact it didn't come out better - maybe worse.

I did run them through iMovie which helped.

I noted this to Sony Catalyst support. Their response below explains my issue.

"When recording files to stabilize with Catalyst Browse, we recommend setting Optical SteadyShot or In-body Image Stabilization on the camera to Active/Off, rather than Standard in order to record stabilization metadata correctly. That said, using Active can sometimes cause the Stabilization tool in Browse to over-stabilize the video, making it appear worse than as originally recorded. Our developers are aware of this issue and may find a solution for a future version of Catalyst Browse. However, if you have found another solution using a different application, that is probably your best option in the meantime."
