I'd use back button focus and pre-focus where you expect the action to be.  You can then refocus as you shoot but if you miss you should be more or less in focus anyway.  
If you are not used to that method,  just shoot and chimp to get used to it.  Once practiced you will get more keepers
I tend to set shooting to about 3FPS and capture bursts of 3 - 6 photos.  That's usually enough to get one where eyes are open etc
