RF100-400 Punches above its weight and cost
7

I bought the RF100-400 as a lightweight "walk-around" alternative to my existing RF100-500L.

I have found so far the image quality to be very good (as tested on my R5). Not quite as sharp and contrasty in the corners as the 4-5x more expensive RF100-500L lens, but still pretty good. Like all the RF lenses, it is very sharp in the center part of the image.

I have found the stabilization performance to be excellent. It has the added advantage over the RF100-500L in that it automatically detects and switches into panning mode, where is a switch option on the L lens.

The RF100-400 also works much better with the RF 1.4x TC in that it still supports the full zoom range (where the RF100-500 is severely limited with a TC).

I posted my image sharpness comparisons on this topic: https://www.dpreview.com/forums/post/66495364
