Re: Yes, but perhaps no. Your guess is as good as mine.

The 24-105 F4 L has FF image circle, IS, and is only 700g!

So I'm back to lugging the R and 24-105 around for casual photography. Dammit!

700g, no adapter, good range, great IS and AF.... in my opinion that's a great walk around option. The primes I'm using with my R5 are heavier.

Weather sealed too. But 1.36kg vs 0.68kg compared to an M6 + 18-50 F2.8. Which is ok for a walk around. Not so good for my ultralight backpacking trips up the hills though. 1.36kg is more than my tent and sleeping bag added together!

O.k., that adds some context.

Still, a 15-45mm has IS, stop it down till f/7.1 for best results, and it's pretty compact, right? Why do you need f/2.8 while backpacking?

Animals. And humans. Shady corners. Woodland. Interesting barn interiors. Misty days. Twilight/sunrise landscape photo-opps.

I haven't really spent much time trying to get the best out of the 15-45. Plenty can be achieved at slow shutter speeds using a mini-tripod on the top of a rucksack. I learned that with a Ricoh GX200 years ago.

I'm willing to carry an extra 100g to go handheld and get better IQ while avoiding the hassle though.

But the 15-45mm has IS. So, even stopped down to f/7.1, it will give better results handheld (less shake and more depth of field) for shady corners, woodland, interesting barn interiors, misty days and twilight/sunrise landscapes than the Sigma would at f/2.8. And it's 155g lighter, 10° wider and less than half the price the Sigma would be, were it available.
