It's not Canon doing corrections for Sigma lenses - that would imply that Canon had studied them, worked out the aberration, colour and distortion corrections they required and were encouraging people to use Sigma rather than Canon lenses.  Sigma have reverse engineered their latest lenses to give the required data to Canon's in-camera correction engine.  Not surprising when you remember the reputation they used to get for strange concentric dark and light circles with peripheral illumination correction enabled in camera.
