Different lenses for different occasions

So what is your Z lens acquisition strategy?

My strategy has been:

  • Air Travel Lenses or when I am hiking
    • Aperture more important than range: 14-30 f/4 + 24-120 f/4 S
    • Range more important than aperture: 14-30 f/4 + 24-200 f/4-6.3
    • Both range & aperture important: 14-30 f/4 + 24-70 f/4 + 70-200 f/4 via FTZ II
  • Events or landscapes where I am moving about in a car:
    • 14-24 f/2.8 S + 24-70 f/2.8 S + 70-200 f/2.8 S
    • 14-30 f/4 + 24-120 f/4 S + 100-400 S*
  • Wildlife / Birds:
    • 100-400 S*
    • 500 PF via FTZ II
    • 800 f/6.3*

*The lenses with the asterisks are the lenses I do not currently have but will likely get in the future.

So this means I have gone for most lenses from multiple categories (so I cannot vote on your choices). But each lens has a use for a different occasion / circumstance. The good news is once you get all these categories, you can pick and choose for almost any photographic occasion. Bad news is that it is a bit expensive but not prohibitively so (especially compared to other hobbies).

Or a strategy that you recommend?

I will not recommend my strategy unless you are OK with the cost.
