Fungi in my 16-55?

Hi all,

I bought a used "good" condition 16-55 lens from an online camera lens store/seller here in the UK. It was listed as good condition with no mention of any dust or optical defects/blemishes.

I wasn't looking for any issues, as I have been really happy with the lens so far and got it for a decent price. However, I was trying to clean and 'dust' the lens and held it up to the light to see if I missed any obvious spots.

Cue complete shock and worry, as I noticed what appeared to be fungi or some kind of heavy internal dust which appears to be coating one half of one of the inner elements. See below:

Should I return the lens? Is this normal (maybe part of some internal coating)?

I checked my other lenses and apart from one or two bits of dust, there is nothing that compares to the level of internal build up that this lens seems to exhibit.

Thank you.
