A Few Steps Back or A Few Steps Forward...

It has been well documented that Henri Cartier Bresson's least used and least favorite lens was the 35mm. Rightly or wrongly, he is also credited with saying the difference between the 35mm lens and his mostly used 50mm lens, is just a few steps backwards or a few steps forward.

As another avid fan of the 50mm lens, is a few steps backwards or a few steps forward the same when comparing 50mm and 75mm lenses?
