Metering Question/How should I have shot this

Obviously still learning but is this scene just a case of too high a dynamic range to avoid blowout?

I Spot metered (32mm, f/11, ISO 100) the building but didn't want to drop down to f/16 because I wanted to retain some of the colors. Should I have? How would you have shot this?

I had the Sigma 18-35 attached and was just about fully extended. If I had the 16-80 attached I could have zoomed tighter on the building, metered that, then back out to recompose? Not sure if that would have helped tho?

Part of me thinks that I did about the best that I could and just live with it. But I want to ask more experienced shooters.
