Yes. I have a laser rangefinder tool for home projects (a Bosch one) that I will often use to train my distance estimation when I'm on boring work calls. I'll look at an object in my home, guess the distance, and check the actual distance using the laser tool. It's fun and absolutely something one can teach oneself in terms of semi-accurate distance estimation
