Not at all the case. Zone focusing is intuitive and straightforward for me. The issues with the Leica were not about zone focusing. It was several-fold: first, my eyeglasses made seeing the 35mm framelines difficult/impossible and I had no ability to "see outside the frame" that is a benefit of the M viewfinder. Next was that I often enjoy shooting with shallower DoF on a normal-wide lens (35mm on FF), and so when I had the camera up to my eye getting critical focus on a moving subject was extremely challenging. One of the benefits to me of the larger sensor is the shallower DoF even at "slower" apertures (though f2.5 on these sensors is not exactly slow, it's not super fast either) for more easy subject isolation even at wider relative focal lengths.
