This is a terrific question and very relevant to me. I sold my A1 and currently only have the X2D and 38mm as per your question. I find it does almost everything. It is more challenging to shoot with than the Sony because it lacks some of the shortcut technology like face tracking, continuous af, face or eye recognition etc. But coming from an M11 you won't mind that. Tethering with Phocus is a joy, it is built like a tank and ergonomically it is perfect.

The only thing I am seriously considering is buying a Fuji X2H-S for two reasons - firstly I would like the option to cover sports and wildlife and telephoto stuff (moon, concerts etc), even if I do this infrequently. And secondly, I feel nervous having only one camera and no backup. I also, blasphemy alert, really love the fuji out of camera jpeg simulations. A new body with a 33mm 1.4 and 150-600mm would cost me around 5.000€ which is more or less the price of the new XCD90 that I was considering.

So to answer your question, from my perspective as someone who owns your suggested combo, it is stunning for portraits and landscapes, it is the most beautiful camera I have ever owned (including various Leicas), the colors and clarity are sensational but I would feel more secure covering all bases with a second body and lens combo.

Fascinating. Why did you sell your A1? As I debate this decision I was actually leaning toward the A1 + Sony 35 1.4 GM, but it's just startling how much bigger that combo is. I know the A1 will have better AF, which is very appealing. I don't know-- I'm agonizing over this! Would you be willing to send me some sample images with the 38V? If you dont' watn to post them here you can feel free to send me a private message. I'd be really grateful for any shots you can share. I can't tell if the 38 is going to be too wide for me. 35mm is JUST right for me on a FF sensor, but going wider isn't always my favorite, so I'm having trouble deciding whether going a bit tighter with the 55 is the right choice.

See this one below for size comparisons.

Even the Sigma 35 f2 on the A1 is very very close to the length of the 38 + X2D.
