I've had the 35 f/2 IS USM for a few years now, using it on 5D series bodies and now mirrorless. It has plenty of good points:

- I've never had cause to fault its sharpness wide open

- AF is very fast, accurate and consistent

- IS is effective

- I like the color and contrast it captures

Unfortunately it can produce some really ugly bokeh (to my eyes) - especially shooting wide open when the subject is a few yards away with say a foliage background. Now I know 35mm generally isn't going to excel in situations like that, but I haven't seen the same kind of ugly in any samples from the Sigma 35 Art, the Tamron 35 1.4 or indeed Canon's RF 35 1.8. I'd post a sample but I either delete the affected shots or simply avoid using the lens to take those kind of shots. It's a shame because it spoils what is otherwise a great little lens.
