Z6/7 i or ii

I've been trying out and looking around for a new fullframe setup for the last couple of weeks now and have decided to buy back into the Nikon system.

  • The cameras feel very sturdy with great weather sealing and build quality
  • The lack of a flip screen is much preferred as I don't do flogs or shoot any video (right now)
  • The 50 1.8 is extremely sharp and very good value for money

Now I am left with the choice which body I'll get. The main things I shoot or will shoot is family candids, studio and environmental portraits and landscape.

Right now I don't do video but in the future I will start to experiment with video but mainly to document things in my family life.

I like to have the ability to crop or recompose in post so the Z7 really speaks to me however the file sizes should be huge and harder to process than the Z6 files.

A single card slot is not really an issue for me but how much will I miss the dual processors and the wide AF with eye detection?

I am most likely getting the bodies secondhand. These are differences in price:

  • Z6 - €1400
  • Z6ii - €1900
  • Z7 - €2100
  • Z7ii - €3000

My total budget is €4000. I'll be picking up the 24-70 F4 and 50 1.8s most likely.

By going for the Z7ii I'll blow my entire budget, while I would get the Z6 I could trade the f4 for the f2.8 version.

What would you advice me and is the II upgrade worth it if you don't shoot fast action or video?
