I'll be interested to hear this. The Canon isn't that great at astro so I would be surprized if the more modern tamron did not win here.

The Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L II is a fantastic lens for astrophotography.  It is very well corrected and can be used wide-open with minimal optical aberrations in the corners.  The first version of this lens (i.e., Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L) you'll definitely want to avoid if your plans are to use it for astronomical purposes.  It suffers from severe seagull, sagittal astigmatism. In summary, the latest version is a wonderful lens for astrophotography.
