Fuji in New Zealand pricing compared to the competition
7

Sutto lives in Australia, an off-shore island to the west of NZ. Similar but different in many ways. Prices can be equally biting when it comes to international imports.

Morris asked me whether I had actually used the X-H2s. A fair enough comment, but my response was that I didn't like the form factor. I could have added this way out of reach price, body-only, they seem to think is acceptable for Fuji users that want an upgrade to their current camera.

We don't have the same "rent" options here that might be available in the USA, so buying, then selling is often cheaper than to actually rent a camera for 3 days ... hard to believe but true. A numbers game.

Here are some random figures of available camera bodies in New Zealand as of today, 21st September 2022:

Comes with a 50/1.8 lens. One could keep it - or sell??

Similar ballpark

Whoop-dee-doooo: the most expensive of the lot, but comes with a second battery. NOT to be sneezed at

And then there is this Nikon Z6 II:

Comes with either an 28/2.8 or an FTZ II mount adapter, more than 1000.00 below the Fuji

So, in short: I can understand Sutto regarding the price regime. But don't agree with regards to low light shooting. I use full frame alongside Fuji and cannot confirm that Fuji is actually that far behind.

Apart from the fact that Fuji has some other features up its sleeve ...

But (A BIG BUT!!!) at some stage one would have to pay for the luxury to own and use a Fuji camera. This whole, +4600.00 NZ$ reminded me of the Olympus MFT monstrosity. Not regarding capabilities, but regarding price.

Doesn't take much to imagine as to what price the next bodies will sell for.

So in short: people like me are priced out.

Simple as that.

Deed

P.S.: Yes, I read some of those responses on Sutto's thread ... full of high-rollers in the "likes" department. Conclusion? Dunno ...
