Tips for pics of kids (6 mo)

I spent some time this evening to take some pics of my kid with my Fuji gear (which doesn't get too much love these days) and struggled a bit with both my current lens selection and my flash.

Flash.  On the flash (Fuji EF-X500), the flash recycling time is pretty slow.  I'm using fresh Energizer Lithium batteries, shooting ISO 200, f/2.8, 1/60s.   I seem to remember that the EF-X500 doesn't have a great reputation around here, but do other flashes recycle faster?   Is my only way out a bump in ISO to reduce the amount of flash power?

Lens.   I was using my XF 80mm, which is a terrible choice from an AF speed perspective but the image quality IMO is just spectacular.   My only other option anywhere near portrait focal length is the long and slow end of my 18-55.   The body is an X-T2 so the AF is not the fastest -- I usually shoot AF-S but maybe with a faster body that might change.

What would you do?

1. Fuji 50 f/2
2. Sigma 56mm f/1.4
3. Viltrox 56mm f/1.4

I haven't shot any of these three lenses to really know if I'd make use of f/1.4.   The Fuji 56 Mk1 is beautiful but I want to pick up the faster AF;  the new 56 is a contender but I'm not sure if it's worth more than 2x the cost for how I'll use it, and it's bigger/heavier.

Thoughts?  Thanks
