A parabolic mic would probably do the best job of picking up the aircraft sound. But they're bulky, expensive, and you'd have to be very careful to keep it closely aimed as the subjects fly around. That would mean an assistant if you're busy working the camera. It won't reject noise from the side, but it give you the best gain from the actual subject and therefore increase the signal-to-noise ratio.

Another option is to use stock sounds or sounds recorded at a different, less noisy venue to dub in over the footage you shoot at the airshow.
