What is your current microphone?

The 416 is an excellent short shotgun mic, but for this application you'd be fine with a cheaper mic like a Rode NTG3, or better yet, a long shotgun mic like a Rode NTG8.

Audio-Technica makes some very good, relatively affordable shotgun microphones, but some of them aren't very sensitive, so you'll need to do your research to find one that's sensitive enough for the noise floor of your preamp.

I think you'll still pick up the music, and I think the frequencies will overlap, so I doubt that editing software will be able to isolate the plane frequencies and turn everything else down, at least not without weird sounding artifacts.

P.S. Try renting a shotgun microphone so see if it works well enough in your situation to warrant purchasing one.
