A bowl only makes sense if you have a collection. A monopod or a slider is going to need a flat based head.

Yeah.  Monopods, sliders, lots of existing tripods, etc.T he two I ordered are both flat based.  Of the several I looked at most were flat based.   It's really easy  to have a half bowl adapter to add/remove.  I'll swap over the adapter from the current head on my bigger tripod.

If you're doing fast run and gun and need the added set up speed having a dedicated video tripod makes sense. But if losing a couple minutes adjusting legs and head isn't an issue it's not likely worth worrying about.

I have several usable tripods, no new ones for now.  Even with "still" tripods. section count affects "speed."  The 3 section is quite a bit faster than the 5.

I'll throw this out. Just rent something. Or buy something cheap. All the reading and discussion will only get you so far. Eventually you need to see for yourself how things work with your gear in your hands.

I've got a couple of heads coming (should have arrived yesterday).  Research should point up the not so obvious easy to make "mistakes."  Trying to be budget sensitive but avoiding heads that just can't be expected to perform to any level that would support either results or learning.
