Innovators like Tamron and Sigma! That’s hilarious! It’s so over the top …
I've been using Sigma and Tamron lenses for over twenty years right next to the best lenses Canon has offered. Both manufacturers have improved greatly in this period and Sigma's lenses are very competitive now in both quality and price.
I didn’t say their lenses were no good. I said they were not innovative. They did not introduce AF or lens coatings or in lens IS, for instance. Of course, Tamron has the world’s only 18-400 zoom.
You have a Tamron lens listed in your gear. How did that happen?
I have two Tamrons (100-400 and 18-400) and I like them. I traded in my Sigma 150-600 against an RF 100-500. Good lens but so heavy I rarely used it. Sigma is good at heavy. Nothing against Sigma or Tamron. If they can legally make RF protocol lenses I would certainly consider them. If they can’t I will stick with Canon AF lenses because the RF protocol is worth it.
In any case, most companies that I have made the acquaintance of do not support their competitors products or take any responsibility for them. Curiously, life goes on apace.
These companies are fortunate to have no direct competition so they have no fear that their customers will switch to other products. Canon does have direct competition and has obviously become afraid as Sigma and Tamron have released some excellent lenses in recent years.
I can’t think of any companies that have no competitors. Who do you have in mind?
Sigma and Tamron, if they were innovators, would focus on their own cameras and lenses instead of trying to latch on to companies that actually do innovate.
If Canon were still an innovator then they wouldn't be afraid of third party lens manufacturers. How could these manufacturers possibly complete with the fantastic lenses that Canon produces?
They aren’t afraid. They are forthrightly enforcing their rights, just like any other company. Try infringing on Sony’s patents and see what happens.
