I often go closer. Find that the 85 or whatever cms, to be reliable and not going borderline all the time, you need to vaccilate around a metre.

And 50cms would indeed make it useful for other stuff too. 11 aperture blades also interesting.

I suppose going closer to 50cm MFD would also enhance the blur in OOF zone, no? Also the bokeh has improved in the WR version with a complete disappearance of onion rings commonly seen in Ver 1. I am told chromatic aberrations are less prominent in newer version. Will we see noisy focusing motor yet again in WR version? No one mentioned a thing about that.

Indeed. I use the 35/1.4 close up and also the 50/2. This is a big one I think as you are correct: the background blur can be controlled even more.
