Sorry to resurrect this old thread, but in light of Viltrox decision to discontinue RF mount products after Canon demand, I am curious about the following questions, then answers to which I could not find by googling them:

Canon EF mount was introduce in 1986. What year did Tamron and/or Sigma introduced the first EF mount lens (any kind, manual or autofocus)? Did Tamron/Sigma have to wait the entire 15 or so years for Canon EF patent to expire?

If anyone knows, let me know. I could not find the info what were the first Tamron/Sigma EF products and when they came out.

They didn’t, at all. I don’t think there were any third-party lenses released for it in ‘86, but in 1990 at least there were already plenty of Sigma, Tamron and Tokina lenses for EF. Lenses like the Tokina 20-35mm and Sigma UC 24-50mm were launched simultaneously for EF, A and F mounts.
