He probably means the newer version with refinements such as OS - Optical Stabilisation.

However, to yourself, "...for wildlife photography..." is a rather broad description, and I do not think - in fact almost "know" - that a 300mm max FL lens will not bring much other than large wildlife closer. It certainly won't go far for bird (and other small animalry) photography. I'd say try for at least 500mm, and that means the likes of the (now old):

from that list, or even the later 150-600... Contemporary lens. Otherwise, you will greatly curtail your "wildlife" experience.
