XE-2, XE-3, or X-E4... The Dilemma

I switched from Canon to Fujifilm at the very beginning of the X-system, I purchased as one of the very first customers the original, first X-100 and was blown away by all the fantastic features and the IQ at that time… extremely light and a real „always with me“ camera.

since then I purchased then the X-Pro 1, then two X-E1 (because I appreciated the EVF and found that the OVF was useless for me) and used this combo for a long time…

UNTIL the day that I heard that Fujifilm had decided that the X-E series should be stopped.

So I got panic and purchased one of the very last XE-3 that was sold out at the moment… luckily for a very attractive price…  

I loved the XE-3 since it was a BIG step forward technically - not only about film-simulations, not only about handling, but especially concerning AF !!!!

What a difference compared to my old  XE-2 !!

THEN. I realized a storm of protest of the XE-enthusiasts against the end of the XE-line…. and Fujifilm accepted, since they ALWAYS care about their customers.

At the time the XE-4 hit the market I was happy again having purchased the XE-3…. Because the minimalist-style of the XE-4 did definitely NOT realize my expectations about ergonomics. For me this evelopment was more a step in direction of the useless minimalism of Leica instead of the path to serve the customers.

so - I looked around and realized that I had missed totally the X-T line of Fujifilm…

And purchased a XT-4 .

Now I still own the very first X-100, two XE-1, my XE-3 and the XT-4 .

Recently I had a long look at my selection of Photography  made with very first X-100 … and the XE-1 …and they are still damn good in 2021.

Of course nowadays there are many useful features to help us that did not exist in former times, ne it ISO, AF, OIS, ISIS,….. but nowadays good photography still depends up to 90% on the photographer and NOT on the hardware…

I love to have the chance to use all the helpful features being „standard“ in 2022, but if I had to choose a XE-model now  I‘d still choose the XE-3 .

For me the XE-3 is still the most ergonomic model in the XE-line and in summary of its features the very best compromise.

So - if you are searching for a XE-model, you better choose the XE-3.
