I didn't understand what you meant by "white focus square" or "blue focus box" etc. except that I know it took me months to get used to my two mirrorless cameras. If I wasn't so stubborn I probably would have abandoned them and kept using DSLR cameras. At this point, I think both mirrorless and DSLR cameras have their advantages and disadvantages. I hope you continue using the Canon R7 but know that there might be times that the Canon 90D would be the better tool. How does the Canon R7 viewfinder compare to the Canon 90D optical viewfinder? In the menu I increased the brightness of the Canon M50 MKII viewfinder to as high as it would allow. That helped some.

Oh my 90d is not going anywhere, I will be carrying in conjunction with the R7 when I go to the Fly in / car show. R7 will have the 100-400 mounted for flying planes . The 90D will have the 18-35mm art for static displays and the cars at the car show.  I really enjoy the EVF many of my photos yesterday when. I clicked the auto adjust gamma I think it's called in DPP none of the exposure sliders moved because the EVF shows what the camera sees as far as exposure. With me normally shooting Iso auto I can just adjust my Ev wheel until the exposure looks correct in the EVF so basically what you see is what you get
