Perhaps I just like all pictures of Dragonflies and Damselflies

We all have our favourites. For me it's often the case that the stranger they look or the stranger their behaviour the more I am interested. Or if the environment does play havoc with behaviour I might have witnessed before. Like this year when I was out on one of my first orchid hunts for the year. In previous years the wild sage was always contemporary to the first orchids, not so this year. A few lady orchids were already nicely in flower while the wild sage was nowhere to be found. Normally the sage is the evening resting spot for bee flys. With no sage available they chose the next best thing: the lady orchid.

Bee fly on lady orchid, 50% crop, still no stack needed as everything that is important is in focus...

One of the happiest days of my life, when this damselfly used my toe as a vantage point. The little stream was idyllic

That is one of the best things that can happen. My wife will never forget the day she was molested by a scarce large blue because (s)he (the butterfly) wanted to have the salts that accumulated on her eyebrows...
