I look at the 70-200 f2.8 wide open at 200, the 135 f2 wide open, and the 85 f1.2 wide open as similar enough that any would be fine to use.

Fine to use for sure, still there will be quite obvious differences in the amount of blur. Both 135/2 and 85/1.2 will have blurrier background than 200mm @ f/2.8 while the difference between 135/2 and 85/1.2 will not be that big as between them ans 200mm.

Surely there are differences.  Not enough to matter to me.

Too many variables with compression, sharpness, background distance, and subject distance. They look similar enough to me. Especially with the sharpness allowing cropping.

Dog head with roses behind with RF 85 f1.2 set to f1.4 (for some unknown reason). Light tan field and fence behind is RF 85 f1.2 wide open. Green grass hill behind is 70-200 wide open. All cropped to various amounts.

Full disclosure these are screenshots of JPEG because it is easier to organize and post.

85 at f1.4

85 at f1.2

crop in of above shot so it looks portrait and shows blur.

70-200 at f2.8

70-200 at f2.8 crop

More crop. Trying to see myself in eye reflection. Eyes are this sharp in all the photos regardless of how it displays on the forum.
