It is manual focus, but it isn't "fairly good". It's great. However, I could be mistaken, but I'm not aware of any major manufacturers that support autofocusing at magnifications >2. But you could try Googling it.

I do know that the Canon MPE-65 is great - but the lack of any ability to electronically focus bracket limits it some with today's cameras.  With Canon being able to have focus bracketing, it surprises me greatly that they aren't providing more than a 1x capable lens with focus bracketing capability.

With the Olympus setup I mentioned before with the Hated Raynox 505, I did get this shot of the scales on the side of a dead mosquito.
