I agree it is like comparing apples with oranges. I have both R7 and R5. They are both tools. The R5 is awesome but for shooting situations and for some specific thing I like the R7 more. The R7 has no video timer. It is smaller and lighter and takes more advantage of RF-S lenses for a incredibly light and easy to use with no timers to shoot 1 hour long videos. The R5 is amazing and offers 45MP images and 8K RAW at high expense and lens weight. I love both for the powers and choice the give me. Each will be best for different needs. It is nice they are so similar so it is easy to go back forth between the two with the possibly of sharing batteries and lenses on some occasions. Some shooter may carry them both with different lenses on each camera.

Yes, it seems that they do complement one another. Both can do what the other does, but each excels in a different area.

When I was more involved with rallies and events, I'd carry my 5Dxx with the 24-70 AND my 7D2 with the 70-200, taking advantage of each format's capabilities. I could do similarly with the R5 and R7, though I'm more inclined to just head out to the local wetlands to shoot birds and such these days.
