No, not back focused. I don't have that issue with the Z6ii and focusing with the magnified view. My wife has a tremor from a broken spine and so it is incredibly difficult to get a good lock on one of her eyes. But I do my best and enjoy practicing.

One thing I have found helpful with manual focus lenses and subjects that tend to move (my wife) is to precompose the framing and move the focus point with the back joystick. Then use the magnify button. I can then focus more precisely and shoot pretty quickly without zooming back out knowing my framing is already set.

I found it very frustrating to be restricted to a single focal length.
