Re: R7 fly-by - More replies

Several recent responders have offered some very thoughtful insights into the photo I posted, and I would like to supply the following info to all:

Camera shake was probably a factor in these shots because I was shooting with mechanical shutter, which I no longer do, and swinging the camera directly overhead, which I find to be a challenging position at best.

Atmospheric distortion was most likely not present since I was pointing the camera virtually straight up.

I was shooting manual exposure with auto ISO.

I believe I had image stabilization clicked on, but I don’t recall what mode. I was then somewhat confused about the IS mode, and still am to some extent. I think that, at the time, I had movie IS turned on, which I no longer do.

This was my first outing with the camera and lens, and the settings were basically a shot in the dark. I’m still working to find the right combination.

On my next foray, I am going to try shooting goals with the following combination of settings:

Bird Detect ON, Eye Detect ON, Tracking ON, Servo AF. And I’m wondering if this is overkill, as in tasking the camera’s brain more than is necessary. I wonder if all these settings are redundant (causing AF to slow down) or even antagonistic. Any thoughts/experience on this question? I’ll be trying various combinations, starting with Tracking off.

BTW, my Subscribe to updates keeps turning itself off, despite having it checked off in my Settings, so I may be late in responding.
