Lightroom B: same as above but applying auto adjustments to exposure, shadows, and highlights

"Lightroom B" for the win. All of the other images lacked a clear focal point because your dogs eyes were hidden in the shadows and just looked a bit dead. In "Lightroom B", the shadows were lifted and your dog's eyes really stand out. Even the nostrils look better in the "Lightroom B" version. So much of the character of your dog's face was just lost in the other versions.

Yes, it did a good job with the tones on the face to bring out those details and give it some punch. I don't know if it's the most natural look (a matter of opinion, I'm sure), but I won't deny that it's attractive. Here's another ART version that's getting closer to that kind of look. Switching to a different film simulation got it most of the way there, then I did some adjustments to color, contrast, shadows, and highlights (some of them being local adjustments).

Since one of the points of discussion has been color, I really like what this rendition has done with my dog's mahogany brown eyes.

And the previous ART version for reference:

This has gone away from the original topic of sharpness and raw editors, but I'm okay with that.
