GR IV, will we ever see one?

Having looked at Ricoh's support of their enthusiasts lately I would say there will be a new model for sure.

Watching Ricoh put on enthusiast meetings like this shows they are investing in the GR -

I think there needs to be new cameras. The old ones of any brand suffer parts failures and stop working eventually. as an example the LCD problem on the GR1 film camera. there are any myriad of faults, failures and problems on any band or model of cameras. Only some are problem free.

I was interested in the Sigma fp as its mostly a solid state brick. No mechanical shutter to fail and has a tough chassis.

Soon a digital camera will be used the same way hipster kids uses analog film cameras today. It will be a retro thing for enthusiasts.
Except for pro photographers, I’d say we’re already at this point.
I agree completely. You see fewer and fewer "real cameras" when travelling, it's almost entirely smartphones now. And for most people it's all they need.

Most people I talk to can see the difference between a smartphone and a larger sensor camera with good optics, but it's just not a difference they care enough about to want to carry around a dedicated camera.

But very different markets I’d say. I bet most of the people using smart phones are the ones who would have been using a low end digital compact before. Not the same people who would spend the premium required to buy a prime lens enthusiast’s camera like a ricoh.
Agreed, it's the people who used disposable film cameras, low end digital cameras and maybe also the entry level DSLRs. The people who bought the cheapest Canon DSLR and only ever used the kit lens.

Perhaps my expectations were to low but I've seen a lot more old dslr's than I expected recently. On my way to and from work I cycle past a fair few Stockholm tourist sites. I've seen a lot of those entry level apsc dslr's that I though would be gone by now.

I've also seen more Leicas than I would have expected. The other cameras have been m43 models. Quite strange how few Sony's the tourists wield.

Yep there are loads of young hipsters using old Canon DSLRs for their ‘retro’ thrills and the ‘old school’ digital vibe man!

I am not a hipster....not even close and yet I prefer analog over digital. It has nothing to do with anything (age, gender etc) other than being aware that we are too 'digital' and analog is a way to put a bit of humanity back into the picture (pun intended!)
that’s why they make us believe that we need a lot of stuff that we don’t need to sell more.
So true..... this is how these companies stay in business. Sell a product...make a need....show value, spend money. That is why I am content with the GR111 'as is' as I see no reason to improve.

Highly likely. My impression is that it's a steady seller. I notice more and more YouTube photographers adding one to their kits. There really is nothing else out there quite like it.

As for wishes for the IV: I have something controversial. I'd like it to record video reasonably well. Here I am not even talking about control - let it be all auto if need be - but recording quality.

My GR2's lens renders video beautifully, but from the noise profile it is obvious that not all pixels on the sensor are used for video. I am fine with 1080p or even 720p, I'd just like a compete and not pixel-skipped read out.

I like having just a single camera. It would be nice if the next GR handled occasional family videos better.

I want a GR bad, but since the current version is “old” and the price has gone up 11% since release the current deal is bad.

I’m running out of patience Ricoh! That’s bad, mkay?!

As others have mentioned, the GR IIIx was thrown in mid cycle.

I'm not sure I would upgrade TBH. I think I have all I need in the two GR IIIs. That and I don't spend much time anymore on photography, but do carry a GR III every now and then.

The GRIII was/is an incredible success for Ricoh, they have sold much much more of it in Europe than they ever expected.

"One of the most important products of our group is the Ricoh GR, the ideal device for street photography. We launched the Ricoh GR III 6 months ago and we are enjoying an extraordinary success: compared to the sales we made with the GR II we have had an absolutely incredible jump, especially in Europe where we have multiplied our sales by 7 or 8. It’s therefore one of the pillars of the group today and one of the areas Ricoh are investing heavily in. In the future, many developments in the GR range are to be expected."

There will be a GRIV - but I hope Ricoh will wait until they have something to offer like much better AF, a higher quality and brighter screen and no more dust on the sensor, until they offer it.

I get GearAquisitionSyndrom in a way - but how many brilliant shots exactly did you miss during the last 25 days, that would have catapulted you to the top of the world photographers - if only the availabe GR's from Ricoh wouldn't suck so badly?

Considering the GRIII sold way more than expected and they released a 40mm version for the first time ever, I’d say it’s a sure thing. Maybe next year.

The GR3x is one of my favorite cameras ever.

May be next Ricoh GR21 II with rework 21mm F2.8 coming...😛
Since they have adapters… I wouldn’t count in it.
