Sony 70-200 f 2.8 for wildlife ?

Although i am quite pleased with my current kit 6100 with 55-210 and 16-50,I noticed that for most wildlife safaris/excursions,people generally prefer to carry big lenses

However, currently I do have the option of renting a 70-200 mm f2.8 lens. From what I understand this is a fixed aperture lens . Does this mean that the aperture will stay fixed at 2.8 and cannot be adjusted?

Another option available to me is to rent a teleconverter,it doesn't add much weight and  it seems that it will increase the zoom range, but it does  reduce the aperture dramatically But because of the reduction in aperture along with the slow auto-focus,I don't think that will be a good idea.

Also is the lens really worth it.From an online review, the lens seems pretty heavy and needs some good support

In conclusion, compared to 55-210 is it worth renting the 70-200 mm lens?
