Thanks to all for the informative and occasionally entertaining responses. I should mention that the Eagles were at the top of a very tall tree at the absolute limit of capability for my current set up (R7 + 100-400mm RF). Thus the tight crops at some expense to the image IQ. Since my original intent was to showcase the capabilities of this new setup without too much input from me, I am posting below a SOOC JPEG Of a much closer bird. No post, except for the one that the bird is perched on.

BTW, I am considering the purchase of a Telextender. Any recommendations as to 1.4 X versus 2.0 x?

Can't you just climb the tree to get closer

Seriously though, the RF extenders really are expensive. Personally I would go with one of the F11 lenses instead. Having said that I am occasionally using the 1.4 extender with my adapted EF100-400II on my R7 and is actually works very well. It is certainly sharper than I could ever dial that same combo on my 7DII. Of course, the AF is very slightly slower when the 1.4* is fitted but barely noticeable. It probably just doesn't acquire the subject as quickly but one on the eye it stays nice and solid. I can only guess the RF version is better.

I have tried a friends RF 2* extender on his big white and R5 combo and I wasn't too impressed with the quality and neither was he. He also has the 1.4* and he felt that worked much better. I do trust his word as he is a far more accomplished photographer than I will ever be.
