Auto ISO and over exposure

When I try to shoot birds in flight or birds against the light sky I usually would switch the exposure compensation to +1 as the meter meters against the sky resulting in a too dark bird.
This works well as long I do not use Auto ISO. When on Auto ISO I set the exposure time to 1/1000 and let the camera decide which ISO is appropriate (up to a defined max value). Compensation dial seems to be ineffective then. Any chance to tell the T3 that I want the photo one stop lighter?
Thanks!
