older footage at 60fps looks different than todays 60fps

I have seen recently some of my older camcorder footage at 60fps, and to me it plays back hyper-realistic (is that even a term?)    Everything just flows and looks smooth.

Today's 60fps from cameras are definitely missing this (at least in my eyes).

Is it the older codecs with considerably less bit rate?  (AVCHD perhaps? 15 mb/s?)

No stabilization?

Is it today's displays?

I sometimes see this on my phone with some recent youtube videos, but I just can't place why some look like this and others don't.

Is it the "shutter angle"?

This has just been on my mind lately and I haven't been able to resolve it.
