B+W recently updated their entire filter line to add the knurling. Have you had a chance to compare them?

I have not. In fact, this is the first time I've heard about that.

Looks more like tight ribbing/texture than the knurling that Breakthrough uses.

Yes, B+W also changed their marketing/naming convention for the filters, where now “Master” means the MRC + Nano coating whereas “Basic” means MRC only.

Seems like B+W filters have had a substantial price increase as well.

I sort of asked this in a response I made a few minutes ago to an earlier posting yours, but I am quite interested in the B+W 007 Master protective lens you just linked to, and am wondering if you’ve tested this one, or any from the B+W “Master” or “Pro” series? Your finding some reduced corner sharpness with some B+W protective lenses has given me a lot of pause.

I have not tried the new Master or Basic filters. I haven’t read in the descriptions of them that the MRC and/or Nano coatings have been changed nor any changes to the glass. It might only be the change to the thickness of the filter rings plus the grip textures.

In response to one of your previous questions, the Breakthrough filters with the knurling do not catch on anything and unscrew. Since they are brass (as are the B+W), they can screw onto the lens very tightly and securely without having to worry about them becoming stuck. The Aluminum filter rings however, would not be great with such texture since for the Zeiss they tend to unscrew on their own anyway, and for the Leica they can over-compress and have trouble with removal.
